Deadline extended for annual
UUSC social justice awards: May 4


The Unitarian Universalist Service Committee is accepting nominations for the Social Action Leadership Award, the Mary-Ella Holst Youth Activist Award and the Vision of Justice Sermon Award for the year 2005. The deadline for nominations has been extended to May 4, 2005.

The Social Action Leadership Award honors creative, inspiring and effective leadership by an individual or group working for justice. The recipient(s) must have provided an outstanding model of committed and effective action on UUSC programs, priorities and public policy positions. The Social Action Leadership Award winner will receive a cash award of $500 and be honored at General Assembly 2005 to be held June 24-28 in Fort Worth, Texas. Nominations must be received at UUSC by May 4, 2005.

The Mary-Ella Holst Youth Activist Award recognizes and honors the achievement of an individual or group of youth and young adults who are advancing human rights and social justice through activism and leadership. Recipient(s) must have demonstrated a commitment to social justice and human rights through participation in a UUSC program of service, action and/or advocacy. The winner of the Mary-Ella Holst Youth Activist Award will receive a cash award of $500 and be honored at General Assembly 2005 to be held June 24-28 in Fort Worth, Texas. Nominations must be received at UUSC by May 4, 2005.

The Vision of Justice Sermon Award honors a sermon that reflects upon a combination of social action and spirituality by clearly expressing Unitarian Universalist principles as they are put into practice through current UUSC programs. Past winners have been outstanding in their reference to and reflections upon UUSC's rich history of social justice advocacy and service as well as their promotion of current action and their artistic merit. All Unitarian Universalist ministers and ministerial students are eligible.

Nominations and sermon text must be received at UUSC by May 4, 2005. Sermons submitted must have been delivered before a Unitarian Universalist congregation between April 1, 2004 and March 31, 2005. The UUSC Vision of Justice Sermon Award recipient for the year 2005 will receive a cash award of $500, will be honored at General Assembly 2005.
