Jessica Atcheson

Jessica L. Atcheson is UUSC's writer and editor. An integral part of UUSC's dynamic and collaborative communications team, Atcheson crafts pieces that inspire as well as inform. As UUSC's primary writer, her editorial vision is evidenced in almost everything UUSC produces in print and online, from Rights Now to UUSC's blog.

A writer whose work has been published in regional newspapers and online, Atcheson began her career in nonprofit communications at Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health, where she worked as associate editor. Before that, she earned a bachelor's degree in English with a minor in communication studies from Hamilton College, studied abroad at Oxford University, and served as a crisis-center advocate through the AmeriCorps Victim Assistance Program.

Atcheson is a member of UNITE HERE Human Rights Workers Local 2661, which represents UUSC employees, and she is currently serving as one of its three stewards. Passionate about social justice, she also works to advance LGBTQ equality and to support survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Atcheson loves the Chicago Manual of Style; she has a hard time deciding whether her favorite punctuation mark is the em dash or the semicolon.
