Lifeline for Immigrant Detainees
With support from UUSC, Freedom for Immigrants launched the first U.S. immigration detention hotline, connecting people in immigration detention to their families and supporting the documentation of human rights abuses.
In its first year, hotline advocates answered 13,818 calls and conducted 4,730 intakes with people in immigration detention.
Freedom for Immigrants recently submitted evidence to an ACLU lawsuit challenging the arbitrary long-term detention of asylum seekers without bond hearings. The evidence was collected through a sign-on letter UUSC and Freedom for Immigrants drafted and circulated.
“We are incredibly grateful for our partnership with UUSC. It is rare to find a funder who also works alongside us in this struggle for justice. Thank you so much for being our champion, our funder, and our partner.” – Christina Fialho, Freedom for Immigrants co-executive director
