Mouvman Peyizan Nasyonal Kongre Papay (MPNKP)
LOCATION: Port-au-Prince, Haiti
Since its founding in 1987, Mouvman Peyizan Nasyonal Kongre Papay (MPNKP) has been advocating for the rights of peasants across Haiti. By promoting agroecology and feminism, MPNKP aims to combat land grabbing and the anti-peasant policies imposed by those in power. This national movement comprises hundreds of peasant organizations that work together based on shared principles, such as a commitment to food sovereignty grounded in peasant-based agroecology.
MPNKP’s objectives include creating a favorable climate for social and economic development, achieving social justice, and fighting against all forms of discrimination and social exclusion. They work to strengthen community trust and solidarity, participate in the country’s economic, social, and political development, and provide technical assistance and training for their members. The support they offer to communities includes health, education, agriculture, and infrastructure development.
A significant focus of MPNKP is on empowering women and youth, providing them with training and leadership opportunities to build resilience to climate impacts and integrate into social movements. UUSC’s partnership with MPNKP supports their initiatives to boost peasant agriculture, provide food security, assist families displaced by systemic violence, and train youth and women on violence prevention.
