The Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC) has welcomed three new board members to support the institution’s mission of advancing global human rights and social justice.

Jorge Juan Rodríguez V, Ph.D. is the Associate Director of Strategic Programming at the Hispanic Scholars Program. He is also a Visiting Assistant Professor of Historical Studies at Union Theological Seminary. Dr. Rodríguez’s scholarly work has been featured in several outlets including TruthOut, Latino Rebels, and The Christian Century. He has been appointed to an open position on UUSC’s board.

Simone Dos Santos, J.D. is the Deputy General Counsel for Lead Bank. Dos Santos was a contributing editor to a U.S. Supreme Court amicus brief in support of affirmative action. She is the founder of Levantamos: The Center for Afro-Brazilian-American Cooperation, a nonprofit creating educational, social, and economic change in Afro-descendant Brazilian populations. Dos Santos’ board term will begin on July 1, 2025.

Laura Willingham Milne is a member of UUSC’s Development Committee. She previously served on the boards of First Unitarian Portland and Outside In, a nonprofit using wraparound services to support youth experiencing homelessness and other marginalized people. Milne was an early leader in the syndicated direct mail fundraising model. Her board term will begin on July 1, 2025.

The expertise of Rodríguez, Dos Santos, and Milne will bolster UUSC’s mission. As both committed advocates for human rights and experienced professionals, each is a skillful,  exciting addition to the board. The UUSC staff looks forward to collaborating with them to advance justice.
